Oaklands Mansion

Oaklands Mansion is a historic gem located at 900 N Maney Ave, Murfreesboro, TN 37130. Built in 1818, the mansion has been beautifully preserved and offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of the families who lived there over the centuries.

The mansion was built by Dr. James Maney, a prominent physician and politician who served as a state senator and as mayor of Murfreesboro. Dr. Maney's son, Lewis, inherited the property and lived there with his wife, Sallie Hardy Murfree, until their deaths in the early 1900s.

During their time at Oaklands, Lewis and Sallie made several additions and renovations to the mansion. They added a ballroom and a conservatory, as well as a new front porch and balcony. They also planted gardens and orchards, which still flourish on the property today.

After Lewis and Sallie passed away, Oaklands Mansion was used as a school, a hospital during the Civil War, and a private residence. In the 1950s, the mansion was nearly demolished to make way for a gas station. However, concerned citizens banded together to save the property, and it was eventually purchased by the city of Murfreesboro.
